ACE has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners. Location: ACE Office Location/Remote

Department/Division: ORGS: OPS: HR

Status: Regular Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)

Schedule/Hours: Full-tome, 40 hours/week with additional hours as needed. Typical work hours of 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (Monday - Friday) local time with some adjustment expected to accommodate specific projects and program needs. Some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required. Start Date: Open until filled. Reports To: Senior Director of Human Resources

Travel: This position may require domestic travel, less than 10%.

Position Summary:

The HR Generalist plays a pivotal role in our Human Resources team, focusing on employee relations, training, and providing comprehensive support across multiple HR functions. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Human Resources (SDHR) and actively contributes to ongoing HR projects and initiatives.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the SDHR on the execution of various HR projects and initiatives, ensuring smooth implementation.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of employee relations policies and procedures, actively participating in the creation and enhancement of comprehensive guidelines. This involves conducting thorough reviews for incidents as necessary, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Keep the ACE employee handbook up to date with careful oversight and interpretation from the SDHR to ensure its relevance.
  • Work closely with Division Directors to address employee relations issues, providing hands-on guidance throughout the investigative process. Conduct in-depth investigations into reported incidents, gathering relevant information, interviewing involved parties, and analyzing findings.
  • Work collaboratively with the SDHR to develop and implement effective solutions based on investigative outcomes. Present comprehensive reports and follow up with recommended resolutions to mitigate future issues. Act as a liaison between HR and Division Directors to ensure the consistent application of employee relations policies and the promotion of a positive organizational culture.
  • Support managers and supervisors in the understanding and implementation of company policies related to performance, discipline, and related areas.
  • Provide advice and training to managers and supervisors on best employee relations practices, offering strategies for managing personnel issues and addressing employee grievances.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance learning and development programs to foster internal development opportunities for staff, including continuous improvement processes.
  • Manage and track staff training through the ACE online Learning Management System to ensure access to consistent and up-to-date resources.
  • Provide support for company-wide information meetings, including open enrollment, new hire orientation, and discussions on changes in retirement or benefits plans.
  • Collaborate with the SDHR to actively support organizational Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.




Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in employee relations and training within an HR capacity.
  • In-depth multi-state knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to navigate organizational challenges and address employee relations issues effectively and timely.
  • Familiarity with online/virtual Learning Management Systems platforms and training program development.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience or willingness to learn payroll/HRIS employee database software, iOS, MS Office, Excel, Google Suite, and webinar platforms such as Zoom, or equivalents to these.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Effective team player and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Self-motivated and can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be flexible and eager to engage the highly mobile and predominantly remote teams that make up ACE.

  • Proven ability to professionally manage confidential material.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 10 lbs., occasionally moves up to 25 pounds.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position may require domestic travel.



Compensation: Starting annualized salary of $65,000 to $70,000, based on experience

Benefits: ACE offers competitive medical and ancillary plans (health, mental health, dental, vision and other supplemental benefits). ACE Staff members are also eligible to participate in ACEs retirement plan with a 2% employer contribution.

Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Time: As an ACE staff member, you will be eligible to accrue up to 80 hours of paid vacation time annually during your first two years of continuous employment, then it increases to 120 hours annually. ACE observes 13 paid annual holidays (floating holiday flexibility). ACE provides 10 days (or 80 hours) of paid sick time annually.
