Position Summary: The Associate Director serves in a leadership role for Project ACCESS, a federally funded DHSI grant, with minimal supervision and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks effectively and in a timely manner to advance the goals of the grant. This position is primarily responsible for leading the student-led supports, curriculum design, and other student-centered initiatives stemming from the grant. They supervise a group of 6-8 student assistants/peer mentors. The position also collaborates and communicates with faculty and numerous university departments and teams on matters related to student-led support and initiatives. The Associate Director also contributes to the strategic planning process of Project ACCESS and subsequent implementation, research, and evaluation of services and programs. The Associate Director also provides support and direction in the development of programs and services focusing on social justice, identity exploration, and leadership/empowerment development, particularly for Hispanic students. Essential Functions
  • Creation of and directing program components/services in consultation with the Project Director.
  • Supervise student assistants/peer mentors.
  • Collaborates and communicates with faculty on matters related to peer mentors.
  • Assists in the strategic planning process of Project ACCESS and subsequent implementation, research, and evaluation of services and programs.
  • Collaborates on relevant meetings and committees to enhance diversity, inclusion, and social justice efforts.
  • Leads and/or contributes to either ad hoc or ongoing university projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities.
  • Develops and maintains student services and programs that support the belonging, mattering, and voice of students.
  • Provides support and direction in the development of programs and services focusing on social justice, identity exploration, and leadership/empowerment development.
  • Assist in developing programs including preparing contracts, communicating with speakers/trainers, and scheduling venues, catering, and audio/visual equipment for events.
  • Follows-up and makes referrals as needed to campus resources.
  • Supervises work-study and student staff including recruitment and performance evaluation.
  • Advises student staff across Project ACCESS.
  • Assists with student staff and office training; assists with training and development opportunities.
  • Supports special projects and serves on University committees as assigned by the Director.
  • Welcomes constituents with a positive attitude and sensitivity and helps maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment; refers individuals and/or questions to appropriate resources when needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Direct supervisor for 6-8 part-time peer mentors (FWS, VAWS, or grant-funded).
  • Supervises staff, ensuring they are successfully following appropriate program operations, protocols, policies, and procedures. Consult with HR as needed on employee relations issues.
  • Leads in recruiting and selecting staff to support grant project goals/objectives.
  • Participates in the annual performance review, working with grant’s External Evaluators and Office of Sponsored Programs and Research.
  • Develop when/where appropriate and work in concert with the Project Director and Principal Investigator on a targeted research agenda to support the grant’s outcomes and dissemination of outcomes.
Requirements: Education & Experience:
  • A master’s degree in an associated field, such as but not limited to education, psychology, social work, or social sciences, or a combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive responsibility and experience in higher education, student affairs, student clubs/organizations, advising, and/or student support services.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in peer-to-peer support, student employment, supplemental instruction, peer mentoring, or a related higher education program.
  • Must be a self-starter with initiative and ability to stay on top of work with minimum of supervision and anticipate needs of organization; must be able to work independently, taking initiative on multiple projects, and maintain deadlines.
  • Interest in and ability to work with a diverse student body and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse population, including the ability to develop and use empathetic listening skills, communicate with clarity, and maintain an attitude that conveys respect, assistance, honesty, and resourcefulness.
Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Knowledge and use of student tracking systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, faculty, and multiple university departments.
  • Knowledge and use of online communication systems.
  • Knowledge of use of data to assess and improve student support programs.
Physical Demands/Environment: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal. The work is performed in an office environment. Location: Remote Travel: Travel required as necessary; less than 10 days annually #LI-NK1 Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency.
