Health Unit Clerk - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Our NICU opened November 1, 2024, under Cleveland Clinic oversight. We are a 14-bed, level III NICU. We admit infants born as young as 22 weeks gestational age up to full term babies who need help transitioning to life outside the womb. We care for babies who need full-body cooling, respiratory support (CPAP, conventional ventilators, jet ventilator, oscillator), and IV nutrition support; we attend high risk deliveries and lead neonatal resuscitations.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, with rotating weekend requirements.   

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties.  

  • Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.  

  • Respond to patient call lights in a manner that expedites appropriate follow through as needed. 

  • Make rounds on patients throughout their hospital stay. 

  • Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.  

  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.  

  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.  

  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.  

  • Troubleshoot equipment.  

  • Respond to patient call lights.  

  • Keep nursing stations clean and organized.  

  • Complete mandatory education and training.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role  

  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Microsoft Office experience
