JOB GOAL:
KCKPS is currently seeking a full-time Health Office Assistant to provide first aid and medications to address the health needs of students, provide clerical support, and assist the nurse in providing appropriate care and/or referral for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administers first aid and medication to students under the direction of the school nurse to meet their immediate health care needs.
- Assists school nurses, students, and other school personnel in providing specialized treatments and monitoring medical treatments and/or testing at the school site.
- Cleans clinic areas (e.g., sinks, counters) to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Maintains inventory of supplies to ensure availability as needed.
- Notifies nurse and/or principal of activities and/or incidents (e.g., suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the childs safety, a positive home environment, and adhere to state, district, and/or school policies.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, and professional development to convey and/or gather information, develop knowledge required to perform job functions, and meet district
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, faxing) to support health services activities.
- Supervises students to monitor those referred for illness.
- Employ good communication and interpersonal skills, cultural competency/sensitivity, tactful language, and empathetic interviewing skills to build rapport and maintain trust with students and staff of varied backgrounds.
- Assure confidentiality and extend efforts to locate and communicate with staff and students in a manner that preserves the confidentiality and privacy of all involved.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant with up to one year of applicable experience
- The ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read various manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to perform the job functions satisfactorily include: office application software and basic computer skills.
- CPR certification is required.
- Bilingual skills —fluency in the primary language(s) of the geographic area and communities assigned to support, Minimum Educational Qualifications
COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with internal and external stakeholders such as the Board of Education, Educational Agencies, Federal/State/Local agencies, teachers, other school personnel, parents/guardians, businesses, and community to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Maintains confidentiality regarding district records. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants as needed to carry out duties.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
LANGUAGE SKILL: Ability is required to schedule several activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in various circumstances independently, analyze data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines, and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant.
