Traffic Operations Technician
The City of Avondale is accepting applications for the position of Traffic Operations Technician Inspects, maintains, measures, pre-marks, removes, and installs roadway markings. Inspects, fabricates, removes, and installs signs. Receives, creates, and closes work orders. Receives stock and inventory materials for upcoming projects. Responds to notifications of signs or roadway markings damaged in a timely manner. Assists the Traffic Signal and Streetlight crews with traffic control as needed.
Essential FunctionsRemoves, installs, and maintains City signs, sign posts, and other traffic control devices as needed. Removes damaged or old signs and signposts. Operates equipment associated with this work such as post drivers, post pullers, and various hand tools.Lays out stripes, painting, and maintains lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, railroad crossings, parking stalls, curbs, and other pavement markings. Operates by using the following equipment: thermoplastic applicators, torches, and various power tools.Reviews signs and striping plans. Makes corrections and modifications to uphold City and Federal Highway standard details. Reviews submittals and resubmits with corrections.Receives items, stocks, and inventories all signing and striping materials. Keeps records of inventory through Word Documents. Updates inventory through the EAM Work Order Program.Adds, withdraws, and updates signs and striping assets. Syncs proper assets with its GIS mapping position. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalency.One (1) year of experience with striping and sign installation is preferred but not required. Certification from the International Municipal Signal Association “IMSA” or American Traffic Safety Services Association “ATSSA” for Work Zone Traffic Control or the ability to obtain within 12 months from the date of hire.
Supplemental InformationWork requires the ability to read work orders and striping and/or signing plans.Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.Work requires the ability to write work orders and reports.Normal tasks require the use of definite procedures, with little deviation. Work requires limited analysis.The incumbents in this position contact others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City such as the Streets Division and Engineering which may be involved in decision making or providing approval or decision making authority for purchases or projects. In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations. Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the employee. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers, and sales representatives. The employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
