Academic and Career Advisor

The Academic and Career Advisor works under the supervision of the Director of Advising and is responsible for supporting students on a bi-annual basis with their Individual Academic and Career Plan (ICAP) ensuring students graduate from CEC with a postsecondary credential.

Job Duties

  • Upholds CECs beliefs found on the CEC website.
  • Meets bi-annually with a designated caseload of approximately 120 students and families to create and review the students ICAP ensuring the student will meet CECs graduation requirements as outline in the Early College Graduation policy.
  • Assists students in registering for classes that align with their ICAP.
  • Mentors students in achieving their academic and/or career goals by sharing information on internships, employment opportunities, scholarships, and other opportunities.
  • Monitors students with less than a 73% classroom grade and reviews list with the Academic Dean, Director of Students Services, and tutoring staff to help ensure students receive appropriate supports to be successful.
  • Updates and maintains accurate student data in IC.
  • Meet regularly with CEC Admissions staff, and with community college partner concurrent enrollment staff.
  • Assists students when applying to colleges/universities, FAFSA, and internships.
  • Supports MTSS and ESS teams as needed.
  • Participates in professional development as requested by the Director of Advising.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience providing academic support to high school and/or college student preferred.
