Apprentice Specialty Crop Farmer

We are looking for people interested in working on and learning about specialty crop farming in the Omaha area. Want to work in and learn whats involved in a specialty crop business? The position is part time and seasonal, estimated to be 10-30 hours per week (will vary with the weather and crops). Estimated start around mid May through about September (depending on weather and crop needs). Pay would be hourly. Pay rate will be negotiated and experience will play a role in the pay rate.

Fruit of Levine LLC is a 15 acre farm located in Omaha Nebraska. We produce specialty crops including, honey, honey comb, red raspberries, black raspberries, blackberries, asparagus, annual vegetables, lavender and other herbs, cut flowers, duck and goose eggs. Cattle are grazed on some of our acreage by another farmer. We utilize no till planted forage for rotational grazing on some of our acres. We plant a fall cover crop of mixed species that is grazed (cattle) in the Spring followed by a no till planting of a mixed species warm season cover crop that is grazed till the Fall. We use tarps for occultation on our market garden area from Winter to Spring, which facilitates no till planting. We heavily mulch for weed control and fertility. We only use materials that are acceptable to the National Organic Program, we are not certified Organic. We focus on products that are difficult to source or hard to find locally. We are dedicated to producing sustainably with minimal impact on our environment.

Minimum qualifications: Must be able to work outside in hot temperatures, willing to get hands (and other body parts) dirty, lift at least 50 LB. Able to stand, kneel and/or sit for long periods of time and is able and willing to learn. Many of the tasks are repetitive, including planting, harvesting, processing, weeding, mulching, pest control, working with ducks and geese and other tasks as required. We are looking people who are excited to work hard and learn about specialty farming, are physically capable of and willing to do manual labor, are "self starters" who once they understand the task can complete their jobs without constant supervision.
