Copy Editor

We are looking for a skilled and detailed oriented Copy Editor to review and edit K-12 educational content for state board alignment. The ideal candidate will ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in curriculum materials while adhering to state standards.

Scope of work:

• Edit and proofread US K-12 content and guides for grammatical accuracy, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency.
• Review course components (assessments, projects, and content-related documents) to improve language accuracy, readability, and ease of understanding.
• Ensure content aligns with US K-12 state educational standards and guidelines in terms of the language and writing style used.
• Collaborate with writers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to enhance content quality.
• Evaluate the overall flow of content from the learners perspective.
• Use internal quality guidelines and checklists to identify any inconsistencies or deviations.
• Log defects based on the severity of errors, track fixes made by the internal team, and ensure closure of issues.
• Maintain language and tone consistency within documents and across courses.
• Collaborate with internal points of contact to resolve issues, implement revisions, and verify information when necessary.
• Provide recommendations that enhance the value and effectiveness of course content.
• Follow Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) and project-specific guidelines and checklists provided by Hurix.
• Copy-edit script files for language accuracy and tone.
• Make updates in track changes and add comments for clarification (if needed).
• Check the Lexile level and ensure its within the defined range.
• Maintain a fast-paced workflow and meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in English, Education, or related field.
• Proven experience in editing educational content, preferably for US K-12.
• Strong knowledge of K-12 educational standards and grammar rules.
• Strong attention-to-detail skills and communication skills.

Payout: $10 perAssignment
