Director of Storytelling, MWD MAC
The Director of Storytelling, Midwest Division develops and implements a visually engaging, human-centered storytelling strategy that delivers on TNCs marketing and communications goals - in support of TNCs ambitious 2030 goals. They aim to achieve donor engagement, facilitate conservation action, support policy outcomes, and build member/prospect interest and retention in the Midwest Division (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Director of Storytelling, Midwest Division serves as a key editorial point of contact, leading the development and execution of creative editorial concepts for multichannel content (print, digital, and social platforms) that bring to life the Midwest Division storytelling priorities. They lead a team to manage and implement a strategic marketing plan incorporating the communications platforms and narratives. They will counsel the Midwest Division Director and the division marketing team on communications and marketing strategies to accelerate outcomes. They will partner closely with the Development/Government Relations staff to develop communication strategies for existing and prospective audiences and with the Director of Marketing and Communications to engage the Divisions media relations team. They coordinate and manage budgets for the divisions production, content, and digital efforts. They will drive outcomes on digital, print, and electronic platforms (print, web, email and social) to elevate our brand and deepen engagement among varied audiences. The Director will elevate TNCs messaging across media and a diverse audience and contribute to building meaningful connections between programs and projects with decision-makers, corporate partners, donors, local communities, and the media.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE•Serve as a thought partner to the Midwest Division Marketing Director.•Design and direct complex and diverse projects, coordinating the work of other professionals and ensuring program accountability.•Inspire creative and critical thinking in how we tell the stories of The Nature Conservancy, in support of Marketing and Communications goals and audiences.•Manage multi-disciplinary professional staff, cultivating their talents and ensuring their wellbeing.•Manage external vendor relationships.•Develop and manage budget, evaluate results, and develop corrective strategies as needed.•Drive the development of all communication and marketing plans from concept to execution.•Build a clear outcomes-based communications strategy to foster and maintain a strong connection to TNCs conservation agenda and inclusive culture with internal and external audiences.•Work collaboratively across all functions to discover, develop, and amplify compelling stories that speak to diverse audiences.•Prioritize limited resources for the greatest possible impact on TNCs conservation goals and external positioning.•Take on a leadership role, working closely with Midwest division colleagues, and share responsibility for the divisions performance and culture.•Foster an environment of growth, creativity and innovation for the Midwest divisions marketing and communications team.•Occasional travel is required for business meetings, training, and/or team retreats.•Supervise production, digital marketing, and content development staff and functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelors degree in related field and a minimum of 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Experience managing staff and teams.
•Experience developing marketing plans and measuring results.
•Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
•Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities, and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS•Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues and policies within the Midwest Division is preferred.•Management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, manage performance and help with conflict resolution on a multi- disciplinary team.•Successful track record with either client / agency relationships or servicing multiple internal clients.•Deep experience in advocacy-based marketing and communications, ideally in an acquisition marketing and/or fast-moving donor-driven environment. Experience working within cultures of philanthropy would be a real plus.•Experience developing, directing and managing multiple marketing projects.•Multi-lingual skills appreciated.•Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.•Excellent communications, and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups including donors, board members and the public.•Experience fostering an environment of creativity and professional growth.•Experience developing, implementing, and measuring strategic marketing plans and programs.•Demonstrated ability in planning and managing budgets.•Excellent communications, mediation and negotiation skills.•Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.• Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $96,000 - $133,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidates location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
