As a Senior Data Scientist II, you will leverage your creative and critical thinking skills to develop best-in-class models that have a meaningful impact across Zip. These models support a variety of domains, with an emphasis on credit and fraud risk but also customer experience, marketing, and more.

Your work will strengthen Zips core Data Science capabilities—from faster iteration cycles to rigorous model governance and documentation. Youll also play a key role in unlocking new business value by applying cutting-edge modeling techniques and AI solutions that drive revenue growth, cost efficiency, and improved operations across the company.

Interesting problems youll get to solve

• Own the model lifecycle end-to-end; develop, validate, and deploy AI/ML solutions to complex business problems, with an emphasis on credit and fraud risk models
• Clearly communicate modeling objectives, assumptions, limitations, and performance considerations findings to stakeholders across the business
• Explore and validate data sources, including ad hoc profiling and integrity checks, to support modeling efforts
• Ensure rigorous documentation and clean, maintainable code
• Clearly articulate modeling objectives, assumptions, limitations, and performance considerations
• Adapt to evolving tools and modeling techniques (e.g., GenAI) with agility, and stay ahead of the curve through self-driven learning
• Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy scalable and robust solutions
• Work cross-functionally to gather insights and requirements from various stakeholders

What youll bring to the team 

• Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Social Science, Computer Science)
• 5+ years of experience in Data Science
• 2+ years of experience in Financial Services
• Experience with credit and/or fraud risk
• Experience working with cashflow data (e.g., Plaid, MX, Finicity), particularly in risk modeling, is a strong plus
• Demonstrated proficiency with AI/ML in financial services; risk modeling experience a plus
• Experience implementing models in production
• Proficiency with Python and SQL
• Hands-on experience with Spark/PySpark
• Proficiency with AI architectures/platforms/tooling (e.g., neural networks, GenAI)
• Solid grasp of the fundamentals of probability, statistics, and applied research methods
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
• Self-starter mentality with strong problem-solving and research skills
• Familiarity with neural networks and/or GenAI models 
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Zip is committed to a straightforward and transparent pay structure. The actual base salary will be determined by various individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, internal equity, as well as other objective business considerations.

The annual base Pay Range for this position is $132,000 -160,000. This range reflects our US national compensation (USN). Additional premium percentages may apply based on our tiered premium strategy.

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. 

If hired, employees will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
