What We Can Achieve Together:
The Southern High Plains cover a staggering 71 million acres. Home to pronghorn, bighorn sheep, grassland birds and more, this region contains large, connected natural areas and watersheds, including more than 30 million acres of prairies, cliffs and canyons and riparian corridors along rivers and streams with high conservation value. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is working with partners to conserve a network of lands and waters across state boundaries through our Southern High Plains Initiative to boost climate resilience, preserve biodiversity and support rural agriculture and local communities.
The Southern High Plains Grassland Program Manager (Program Manager) leads a community-based conservation program called “Generational Grasslands” in the region, with the goal of implementing durable, improved management on 4 million acres of private lands. Since its pilot in 2020, our Generational Grasslands program has provided innovative financial incentives, technical advisory services, conservation planning support, and more to help landowners conserve their lands for future generations while maintaining sustainable ranching practices.
