Job Description

The Opportunity: 

Were seeking a talented Senior Paralegal to join Mattels growing rights management team, situated within the Legal and Business Affairs group.  Successful candidates will be highly experienced in media & entertainment and consumer products rights/IP management with the ability to execute end-to-end contract and rights management processes.  This position is located at Mattels headquarters in El Segundo, CA. 

What Your Impact Will Be: 

Rights/IP Management:

  • Develop an expertise in Mattels intellectual property portfolio and rights
  • Help manage historic digitization efforts with the ability to identify, prioritize, and ingest agreements in the rights management system
  • Analyze and interpret complex ownership and licensing arrangements in support of the rights management team and media & entertainment clients
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide guidance on inquiries regarding rights and ensure that they are accurately reflected in the rights management system, including facilitation of rights collision checks and resolutions
  • Help manage escalations of rights management issues, with a knowledge of when to further escalate inquiries to deal leads and attorneys
  • Responsible for being a super user of the rights management system, including identifying areas for enhancement.

Team Collaboration: 

  • Act as a mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the rights management team
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders from business, legal, finance, and accounting teams
  • Interface routinely with Mattels IP, entertainment, gaming, licensing, and/or inventor relations legal teams
  • Help drive user adoption of the rights management system

Qualifications

What Were Looking For:

  • 5+ years experience working in intellectual property or rights management within the media & entertainment and/or consumer products industry
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property laws and issues, including copyrights and licensing
  • Strong experience with market leading enterprise rights management systems, preferably with RightsLogic
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Tech savviness with knowledge and expertise in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and other tools such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver results in a timely manner
  • Self-starter who works independently but knows when to elevate issues and seek advice from colleagues
  • Intellectually curious and eager to continuously develop personal skill set
  • Attention to detail in all areas, particularly as to contract review and analysis

The base hourly rate for this position is between $43.85 and $54.00. **This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base hourly rate will be determined based on a candidates work location, skills and experience. Mattel offers competitive total pay programs, comprehensive benefits, and resources to help empower a culture where every employee can reach their full potential.
