Job overviewThis is an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist (Band 6) to join Specialist Therapy Assessment Team (STAT), working across the Emergency Floor. We are offering a 5 months fixed-term contract from September to January full-time position.
STAT is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and experienced Therapist to join the team. This dynamic role involves providing timely and expert assessments and interventions for acute patients.This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop both your clinical expertise and leadership skills within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. The post includes shift work and weekend duties.
Main duties of the job· To manage a specialist caseload within the Specialist Therapy Assessment Team (STAT) using clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to support assessments using a client-centred approach and current evidence base to assess, treat, implement, evaluate and document interventions.
· To complete assessments and therapeutic interventions within the emergency department, including Majors, Acute Admissions Ward, Frailty and MSAU
· To be responsible for the assessment, treatment, implementation and documentation of Therapy interventions
· To develop positive and collaborative working relationships across Health and Social Care.
· To be responsible for the maintenance and development of our CPD and continuous learning.
· To supervise and develop Junior Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy Staff.

STAT is a service based in ST Thomas hospital providing specialist therapy assessments and interventions to reduce and avoid unnecessary admissions as well as provide early rehabilitation.
The team consists of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who work within an extended scope, with PTs trained up in OT skills and vice versa. As a service STAT provides therapy cover to the emergency department including, Frailty, Admissions ward, Majors, Urgent Care Centre, MSAU (Multi Speciality Assessment Unit) and Majors outliers in Resus.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesClinical:
1. To be responsible for providing specialist individual client centred assessments within the STAT team. To address Occupational performance skills, patterns, context or contexts and activity demands in collaboration with patients and carers both in the hospital and patients home environment.
2. To undertake specialist multi-needs assessment using analysis and synthesis to develop individual goal and task orientated treatment plans in collaboration with patients, carers and colleagues.
3. To carry out physical functional assessments and therapeutic interventions necessary to assist the A&E, frailty unit and acute admissions ward in making decisions to prevent unnecessary admission.
4. Ensure reviews demonstrate ethical clinical reasoning and problem-solving techniques to determine agreed outcomes across health and social care.
5. Accurately record all professional judgements and decisions taken, keeping records of plans in accordance with Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy Policies.
6. To maintain high standards of patient care working within professional Code of Conduct and service standards and procedures.
7. To allocate appropriate patient related tasks and ongoing treatment to Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy students, reviewing and monitoring outcomes.
8. Undertake complex risk assessments to determine appropriate management on discharge, specifically relating to moving and handling
9. To be proactive in the monitoring, recording and reporting of changes in clinical practice which may influence service delivery.
10. To use critical reflection and evidence of best practice to develop and enhance the patient and carer experience.
11. To demonstrate understanding and application of National guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and their impact on practice.
Managerial:
1. Develop and manage professional relationships, identifying strategies for coping positively with any inter-professional tensions.
2. To be responsible for the clinical, professional development and day to day management of Junior Therapists.
3. Use supervision and professional development plans to promote own and others clinical effectiveness where appropriate.
4. To identify personal competency limitations in relation to clinical practice, seeking advice and guidance through supervision structures.
5. To manage clinical workloads of self and others using effective strategies to prioritise referrals and resources on a day to day basis seeking guidance as appropriate.
6. To comply with statistical recording procedures and appreciate their value in service review and development.
7. To contribute to the delivery and development of the service, Therapies Business Plans and Clinical Governance Strategy.
8. To develop leadership skills in the management of Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy programmes, projects, supervision and management/development of Junior staff.
